Goleby’s Basement is located directly beneath ARTtime Supplies, at 203 Brisbane Street Ipswich (entry via West St) It is a heritage listed building, previously used as a saddlery manufacturing workshop, and later bikes and sporting goods.

Now an exciting new chapter in Goleby’s history is here! Still having a creative influence on the local community, Goleby’s Basement is a now a multi use, innovative space right here in the Top of Town that caters for all artists and art forms.

What? Where? Huh?

Where is it

Goleby's Basement is on West Street, Ipswich. Parking is round the back or on the street if you're lucky. The entrance is through the double wooden doors - you can't miss it.

What happens

With original exposed brickwork and a funky steampunk fit-out, the space is the perfect backdrop for intimate theatre events, DJ sets, artisan markets and drawing gatherings, all of which are already happening. We hope the space will encourage cross-pollination between the arts and welcome any ideas or collaborations.

Who can use it

Everyone! Almost... We'll run events as often as we can - music performances, meetings, movie nights and more are already on the calendar. The Performance Studio is also available to hire for private or public events

Why do we do this

We want to be a community focused venue with a great vibe. The basement is run by creative people, for creative people and we'll work with you to bring your ideas to life. We do it for the love.

Performance Studio

The performance studio can seat 40-50 people and has a stage, lighting and small PA. It's perfect for intimate events run by performing artist, or can be hired as a rehearsal space (being considerate, of course, to the neighbouring studios and businesses).

The super cool bar within the performance space has a range of wine, beer ciders and soft drinks available for purchase, and cheese platters or catering can be arranged on request.

Artist Studios

There are two small studio spaces that include a table, two artist stools, power, natural light and access to an eye catching display window fronting West Street.

Also available are two larger studios, which include one table, three artist stools and power. There is no direct natural light in the larger studios due to their placement within the basement, however they do have good overhead lighting and also have access to an eye catching display window fronting West Street.

Upcoming Events

Goleby's Basement

The debut event for the performance space was an award winning, cabaret performance, presented by Tammy Linde as part of the Anywhere Theatre Festival. Goleby’s Basement is also the regular home of Dr Sketchy’s, a monthly burlesque/life drawing/photography event! DJ sets, and an upcoming movie night are just the beginning an exciting creative future, in a space custom made to nurture and bring together the creatives of our region.
